Procedure, used coins and legal grounds
Consumer purchase from a trader · Germany / EU
Withdraw without giving a reason within 14 days after receipt. This also applies to used collectible coins (§§ 312g, 355, 356 BGB).
The seller pays return shipping on withdrawal and provides a prepaid label in the order.
After withdrawal: send the goods back within 14 days; refund including standard delivery within 14 days of the seller receiving the withdrawal. The seller may withhold payment until receiving the goods or proof of dispatch, whichever comes first (§ 357 BGB).
Faulty goods: repair or replacement; the seller bears necessary costs including shipping. Price reduction and termination follow §§ 437–441, 475d BGB.
Send the seller a clear withdrawal declaration using the order function, email or post. No reason or seller approval is required. The period starts after receipt and proper withdrawal information; for separate deliveries in one order, after the last item. Without proper information, the right expires at the latest twelve months and 14 days after receipt (§ 356 BGB).
Refund using the same payment method; another method requires an express agreement without buyer costs. Charges above the cheapest standard delivery are not refunded. If the seller offered to collect the goods, payment cannot be withheld pending return (§ 357 BGB).
Under German law, ordinary goods defect claims have a two-year limitation period from delivery (§ 438 BGB). Reducing this to one year for used goods requires separate advance information and an express, separate agreement (§ 476(2) BGB). Labelling goods as used does not shorten the period.
Inspection to establish the goods' characteristics is permitted. Compensation for diminished value requires handling beyond necessary inspection and proper withdrawal information (§ 357a BGB). Cleaning, polishing and damage to a coin are assessed under these rules; no automatic penalty.
Gold or silver content alone does not exclude withdrawal. § 312g(2)(8) BGB requires price dependence on financial market fluctuations outside the seller's control during the withdrawal period. Online-only auctions without the possibility of personal attendance do not qualify for the public-auction exception (§ 312g(2)(10) BGB).
Where the trader directs sales to the consumer's country of residence, choosing German law does not remove that country's mandatory consumer protection (Article 6, Rome I Regulation).
